Pete Souza has been named the White House photographer for President-elect Obama.

This is an important development for both photography and political reasons.
As you may know, Pete worked in the Reagan White House for over five years and produced "Unguarded Moments: Behind the Scenes Photographs of President Ronald Reagan" (a book that is good as its title is long).
After leaving the White House he was welcomed back into the journalism business. Which, quite honestly isn't the easiest thing to do coming out of a Republican administration.
Since then, he's worked for just about all the good publications (or at least has had his work published in them), plus he published a couple of books.
His latest book, "The Rise of Barack Obama" spent some time on the bestseller list.
Basically what I'm saying is that Pete is respected on both sides of the aisle as well as in the "Fourth Estate".
The Obama team couldn't have made a better pick.
